Logika Group presents at UK Conference of Wind Engineering

08-11-2024

At the beginning of September 2024, Logika Group Board Director, Stephen Moorcroft, presented at the UK Conference of Wind Engineering.

Hosted at the University of Southampton, the 14th UK Conference of Wind Engineering provided delegates with an enlightening exploration of the latest developments, projects, and techniques in wind engineering.

As part of the conference a mini-symposium was held on the UKUEQ initiative, being a joint working group comprising of the CIBSE Resilient Cities Group and the UK Wind Engineering Society, associated with the Institution of Civil Engineers.

The group is primarily focused on computational fluid dynamic (CFD) techniques within a performance-led approach and how it interfaces with other software types and design methods. The principal four activity streams include urban vegetation, wind, thermal comfort and air quality.

Here, Stephen Moorcroft, a Director at Air Quality Consultants | Part of Logika Group gave a presentation of Urban Air Quality and Planning and contributed to the subsequent panel discussion focussing on best practice design, street canyons, urban vegetation and the links to net-zero policies.

Contributing to several current UKUEQ workstreams, Air Quality Consultants | Part of Logika Group is bringing its specialist air quality expertise to the development of new CIBSE guidance documents.

In addition, Matheus Almeida, who is employed by Air Quality Consultants, is undertaking a PhD at Bristol University where he is using a combination of dispersion modelling, CFD modelling, and wind tunnel modelling to develop improved air quality assessment approaches.

Discussing his participation at the event and wider support for the UKUEQ initiative, Steve Moorcroft said: “This is a very exciting and important area for us to be involved in, and the discussions at the event were thought-provoking.  We are delighted to continue to support the UKUEC workstreams”
